Eight participants from the University of Michigan, University of Notre Dame, RMIT, Universidad Catolica de Chile and University of Windsor recently took part in a Learning Analytics Summer Institute (LASI) workshop run by OnTask Project Lead A/Prof Abelardo Pardo in Michigan.
The participants initially explored the connection between the data collected by educational institutions, the creation of student models, and the opportunity to use these to provide personalised actions. This last component was explored through a hands-on session with OnTask.
The tool serves to highlight the importance of connecting the availability of data with the need to provide personalised support. It also emphasised that the effectiveness of this paradigm relies on substantial multidisciplinary work between technologists, data scientists, instructors, and educational experts.
